Handy Hints

Close-fitting, heavy drapes or blinds, or double-glazed windows are effective in reducing heat losses from your home.

Use the thermostat correctly. For every degree you increase the thermostat setting your bill can increase by 15-20%. So set your thermostat to a reasonable temperature -19-20 degrees C is usually adequate during the day.

Don't leave your heating running while your out during the day. It is cheaper to turn the heater off while you are out, and on again when you return. We can install a programmable thermostat to turn your heater on and off automatically, say 20-30 minutes before rising in the morning or getting home in the evening.

Close windows and doors in heated areas while the heater is on. Close drapes or blinds when you are heating, especially at night.

Open up curtains to north facing windows on sunny winter days to let in the free, natural solar energy to warm your home.

Preventative Maintenance
To ensure continuing high performance and to minimise the possibility of premature equipment failure, periodic maintenance must be performed on your equipment. A general service should be carried out once per year to maintain your system.

You should Inspect Return Air Filters. Replace throwaway type filters when they become clogged with dust and lint or clean cleanable type filters regularly.

A ducted heater preventative maintenance service consists of:

  • Inspecting all flue product passages
  • Inspecting combustion and ventilation air passages
  • Check airflow at outlets
  • Clean burners and injectors
  • Clean Fan and Motor
  • Check gas pressure
  • Check complete operation of unit
  • Ensure that the system is operating to peak performance

An evaporative cooler general service consists of:

  • Clean out water tank thoroughly and check tank for leaks
  • Check operation of motor
  • Clean the filter pads
  • Check filter pad material for holes or deterioration. The pads will deteriorate over time and lose their water absorption ability.
  • Provide on-site assistance regarding operation
  • Check general operation of unit:
  • Check float sensor
  • Check solenoid is operating correctly
  • Check pump and visually check for even water distribution to the pads.
  • Check electrical connections

A refrigerated / AO cooler general service consists of

  • Inspect and clean indoor (evaporator) coil, collection tray and condensate drain.
  • Inspect the heater’s fan motor and wheel for cleanliness and alignment
  • Inspect and clean outdoor (condenser) coil.
  • Inspect outdoor fans and motors. Ensure motor and fan operate correctly
  • Inspect the unit for vibration and excessive noise.  Correct where necessary.
  • Check refrigerant charge and top-up refrigerant gas if necessary
  • Check electrical connections.
